We'll stop to stretch our legs and buy some seasonal produce from a roadside vendor along the way. We might end up with some juicy jackfruit or a sweet-smelling pineapple before continuing on our journey. We'll be at the lodge in time for lunch.

DAY 3: ANDASIBE NATIONAL PARK

Today, we will begin our nature discovery journey in Madagascar. Madagascar, commonly referred to by ecologists as the eighth continent, is home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna exclusively found on the island, with a staggering 90% believed to be endemic. To put this even greater perspective, 5% of the world's plant and animal species are found here and here alone. This distinct biodiversity can be traced back to the prehistoric division of landmasses, which ultimately shattered Madagascar and India 88 million years ago, thereby allowing plants and animals to evolve in relative isolation. Every year, ecologists gain a greater understanding of the island's natural resources. In fact, the Brookesia nana (or nano-chameleon), widely regarded as the smallest reptile on the planet, was only discovered here in 2021.

After breakfast, we will depart for the Perinet Reserve, a dense and verdant area home to a large population of one of Madagascar's most celebrated inhabitants, lemurs. In this particular area of the island, we will find roughly 13 of the 100 species of lemur, including the indri, which are among the largest of their kind. Other notable animals we might encounter include the Parson's chameleon, paradise catchers, the Madagascar falcon, and hundreds of species of native frogs. You will also have the opportunity to witness dazzling flora, such as the Ravenala palm, a massive plant outfitted with paddle-shaped leaves in the form of a fan.

We will return to the lodge this afternoon, where we will have some personal time to explore on our own.

DAY 4: MANTADIA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we'll head to Mantadia National Park, a nearly 60-square-mile protected area. There are eleven lemur species in the park, including the indri and black-and-white ruffed lemur, and numerous waterfalls and a diversity of altitudes. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a two-mile stroll through the less-visited regions of the reserve. Our walk will conclude at a sacred waterfall in Mantadia National Park, where we will stop for a picnic lunch and learn about the site itself, including the on-site burial ground marked by wood-carved tombstones.

We will return to the lodge this afternoon, where we will have some personal time to explore on our own.

DAY 5: ANDASIBE- ANTANANARIVO

You will find an assortment of chameleons, including the Oustalet Chameleon, the Parson's Chameleon, and Geckos, including the Leaf Tailed Geckos, Satanic Geckos, and the famous Brookesia from the country.
