Embark on your exploration of the west of Madagascar, commencing in Miandrivazo and culminating in Morondava. Spend your first night in Antsirabe. The following day, continue your journey towards Masiakampy, where you’ll board a boat by lunchtime, initiating a two-day river excursion along the Tsiribihina. All meals will be provided onboard by the skilled boat crew, with nights spent in tents pitched on the riverbank.

Subsequently, embark on a 4WD adventure to Bemaraha National Park, where you’ll marvel at the awe-inspiring Great Tsingy, one of the region’s most remarkable attractions. Conclude your journey in Morondava, traversing the famed Baobab Avenue to capture memorable photographs before bidding farewell to this enchanting region.

Antananarivo

Antananarivo is the busy capital city of Madagascar and the start of most Madagascar safaris. This city deserves it’s place on your Madagascar itinerary. It’s a vibey, colourful city that offers visitors a glimpse of Malagasy society. The architecture tells the story of the city’s history, with the Rova of Antananarivo palace complex the undeniable jewel in it’s crown. Visit the pink baroque Andafiavaratra Palace and enjoy the pretty Jacaranda trees surrounding lake Anosy.

Morondava

Situated in the heart of Sakalava territory, Morondava is known for the royal sculpted tombs of the Menabe ancestors and for being the gateway to the Avenue of the Baobabs, one of the most photogenic places in Madagascar.

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

An exceptional landscape of limestone uplands cut into ‘tsingy’ or peaks and a ‘forest’ of limestone needles. The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park encompasses the Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve. Experience the spectacular Manambolo river canyon and pristine forests, lakes and mangrove swamps that shelter rare and endangered lemurs and birds.

Day 01 Antananarivo - Arrival

Upon your arrival, our guide will greet you at the airport hall. You’ll then be transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Situated in the heart of Antananarivo, the hotel offers convenience and comfort to our guests. The air-conditioned rooms ensure a pleasant stay, while the restaurant serves a delightful blend of European and island flavors, providing a memorable dining experience.

Day 02Antananarivo – Antsirabe

After breakfast at the hotel, convene with our guide to embark on a southern safari, departing from Antananarivo. Along the journey, marvel at the picturesque rice fields and quaint villages characteristic of the Highlands, immediately beyond Antananarivo. Your initial stop awaits at Ambatolampy, where you’ll uncover the remarkable craftsmanship involved in aluminum cookware production. Midday, continue your journey towards Antsirabe. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to partake in an optional city tour, experiencing the traditional “pousse-pousse” transport.

Day 03 Antsirabe- Tsiribihina River by boat

Embark on your journey after breakfast, traversing through Betafo and Mandoto village. Pause briefly to observe the gold washers from the bridge. Subsequently, veer onto a trail beyond Miandrivazo village towards Masiakampy pier, where our barge and crew eagerly await to embark on our river descent. Enjoy lunch onboard before departing the riverbanks, venturing into the wilderness to commence the cruise. Spend the night in tents pitched along the riverbank of Tsiribihina.

Day 04River trip on Tsiribihina

Glide serenely onto the tranquil river, embracing a leisurely and peaceful ambiance. As evening descends, arrange the tents on the white sand, gently lapped by the water’s edge. The crew diligently prepares all meals, served onboard. Passengers can leisurely engage in various activities such as playing cards, reading books, or ascending to the solarium roof for sunbathing while admiring the picturesque scenery. In the evening, local residents. the scene, enriching the atmosphere with traditional music and dance.

Day 05 Tsiribihina River – Bekopaka

After breakfast, embark on a drive to the Tsingy of Bemaraha. Enjoy a midday meal at Belo Sur Tsiribihina before continuing your journey northward along a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site, traversing a land track. En route, cross the Tsiribihina and Manambolo rivers via a small car ferry before reaching Bekopaka village.

Day 6 & 07Tsingy of Bemaraha

Renowned for its breathtaking beauty, the Tsingy of Bemaraha stands as one of Madagascar’s most extraordinary sites, featuring a veritable limestone cathedral. This landscape is characterized by a dense network of faults, cracks, and limestone blocks sculpted into towering blades, offering a striking vista. Formed over 200 million years ago when the Bemaraha sea covered the region, it now hosts an array of biodiversity, including six species of lemurs, various reptiles, and 53 bird species. Notably, it serves as the habitat for the diminutive Brookesia Perarmata chameleon. Over the course of two days, accompanied by a guide and porters, you’ll immerse yourself in the wonders of this remarkable site, exploring its hidden treasures and marveling at its natural splendor.

Day 8 Bekopaka –Morondava

Travel to Morondava, where you’ll cross the Manambolo and Tsiribihina rivers by ferry, a journey that may require some time. Afterwards, proceed to Morondava town, making your way via the renowned “Allée des Baobabs.” Arrive in time to capture stunning photographs as the sun sets, casting a warm glow on the iconic baobab trees, their smooth trunks reflecting the golden rays of the sun. Following this captivating sight, settle into your hotel by the sea for dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 9 Morondava -Antananarivo – Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for a flight back home

INFORMATION BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Departure

Upon your arrival in Antananarivo on the first day of the "TREK IN MADAGASCAR", you will be greeted at the airport and taken on a tour.
If you arrive before the first day, you can arrange for a hotel room for the tour. You will be picked up from your hotel on the morning of the first day. The time will be decided upon your arrival.

Transport

The transport will depend on the group size for the "TREK IN MADAGASCAR" tour, based on the size of the group.

Travel Creator in Madagascar

A small car that can accommodate two to three people.
A minibus that can accommodate between 4 and 8 people.
A bus with a capacity of 10 people or more.
A 4x4 vehicle is provided for the day trip to Andringitra and Tsaranoro.

Visa

A visa is required to enter Madagascar and can be easily obtained upon arrival at Antananarivo airport, with a validity of up to 60 days. Tourists planning to stay for less than a month can obtain a visa for a sum of 115,000 Ariary (approximately 35 €). It is advisable to pay with the exact amount or small change. No photograph is required; however, it is imperative that passports are valid for at least 6 months after the return date.
